Can you clear bracken and brambles that have spread in from the heath?
Yes. We cut both back, dig out bramble roots where we can and take everything away. Bramble roots can be dug out, but bracken spreads through underground stems, so it nearly always comes back after the first clearance. Cutting the new fronds each time they appear, over a few summers, gradually weakens it. We can build that into regular visits so the cleared ground stays clear.
Why is my lawn thin and mossy under the trees?
